The truth isn’t sexy.
It’s tough to tell it sometimes, and tough to hear it a lot of times.
Telling the truth in the nutrition and fitness industry is definitely NOT sexy, contrary to what you see when searching ‘fitness’ on social media sites.
What is sexy? Yup! Shakes, detoxes, juices, supplements, the *new* thing out there that all the models are doing. You, too, can achieve this fit body and be staring out over the horizon with pouty lips if you just click my link and buy what’s for sale. Never mind that next week I will be giving you all access to my mental breakdown of all the pressures being a fitness model, and how I’m healing myself {new link}.
Ugh, salty much, Kelsey? Why yes, yes I am.
We can’t just snap our fingers and achieve our health and fitness goals. There is no magic bullet. Gee, how many times have we heard that? And yet, we are still buying Herbology, Shakesis, Plexlife, SkinnyCleanse, HydroxiTea…. OMG! There are so many of these companies! All claiming to be the help you need. *Cough* bullcrap *Cough* That is the [un] Sexy Truth.

The story usually goes like this from all the sweet and kindhearted people just trying to achieve their goals:
“It really did work when I first started. I lost some weight, and then I stopped doing the program. Only if I wouldn’t have given up. I just, ughhh, I just can’t seem to stick to anything. I suck”
Wait, what? YOU suck? Why did you stop doing the program?
“I just like food too much. The {insert product} tasted good and I was doing well losing weight, but then I couldn’t resist that cake at the office. I ate uncontrollably after that, since I had already screwed up my diet. It was kind of expensive, too, but what is the price of health anyway? I’ll probably give it another go after I return from vacation, because I want to be unhealthy and just enjoy myself there.”
Hold up. Enjoying the food you eat is ‘unhealthy’ and the expensive product that has you demeaning yourself is the ‘healthy’ option?
WWWHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAA??????????
The [un] Sexy Truth:
Let’s remember the basic principle of weight loss: a negative energy balance. This is absolutely needed in order to lose weight.
Ok, so, the products you were buying were meant to help you achieve a negative energy balance, since they are claiming to aide weight loss. It could be meal replacement, rearranging your priorities (taking their product vs. eating more calories), or focusing on drinking tea overeating snacks.
That’s totally cool. It does work, if you have a negative energy balance over time.
Are there other ways to achieve this without buying the product? Of course! Many.
Are there ways to achieve this while still enjoying eating? YES!
