Declaration: “From this day forth, I will only chose healthy foods!”
Lasts two days.
Why?
A typical excuse I’ve seen is “Well, it got boring. I need variety and couldn’t eat the same thing every day”
I’ve seen it a lot on Facebook groups and forums:
- Looking for a healthy recipe that must be tasty!
- Meal prep ideas for lunch that taste good?
- I can’t eat the same breakfast and lunch everyday, suggestions for mixing up meal prep?
- And so on…………..
Look, changing your eating habits takes time. It’s going to seem really restrictive to go from eating whatever you want to foods that are good for you but aren’t necessarily the most crave worthy. When you aren’t ‘dieting’, there is a whole world of choices of foods to eat, and most likely you chose ones that sound good in the moment. That satisfy your emotions over ones nutritious for your body (fat brings the flavor and is the most calorie dense!). Which is probably what leads to the above proclamation.
Get out of the rut and think practically here. Is it more your mentality than reality? Mentality: I’m hungry and will eat what sounds good. I’m not dieting and I can chose any food I want. Possibilities are endless! Reality: I’m choosing the same comfort foods over and over again.
Do you really eat a variety of foods when you aren’t tracking your food? I am willing to bet that you’d be writing down very similar meals day in and day out. The choices may seem endless but it probably still is the same burger and fries, variety coming from which fast food joint you are choosing. Or what toppings are going on the pizza this time….
Of course eating healthy is not the same! But it doesn’t have to be boring. Do you know how many varieties of bananas there are? Google it. You’ll be amazed. Also, Spices. Just like the title says. Most blends are calorie free and are easy solutions to the ‘boring chicken’ debates.
Be patient with the transition. It will be worth it.
